Development of methods to study deep roots and resource uptake

Develop and test new methods for studying root growth and resource uptake (water and different plant nutrients) from deep soil layers (1 to 5m depth)

Some of the main methods we want to use are well known methods to us, which we have used in previous studies, this is certainly true for the minirhizotron methods for measuring roots and for 15N isotope labelling for measuring deep root N uptake activity (Kristensen and Thorup-Kristensen, 2004). For a range of the measurements we plan to do, we need to develop methods or adapt existing methods for working into deep soil layers.
